About Polona

Polona Hercog is a Slovenian tennis player. She was born 20 January 1991 and started playing tennis at the age of 4. She initially trained in Slovenia but left home at the age of 14 and started to train in Italy where she stayed for 1.5 years before turning pro. At the age of 17 she started to work with a Hungarian coach Zoltan Kuharszky and reached her first big result at the ITF tournaments. She reached her first WTA final in Acapulco 2010 and won her first tournament in Bastad 2011.

Polona’s favorite shot is forehand and her favorite surfaces are clay and hard court. She always admired Justine Henin for her game and attitude.

In the future Polona’s goal is to improve her game and reach Top 10.

Polona comes from Slovenia, from Kamnica pri Mariboru and is the only child in the family. Her mother Romana is a florist and her father Vojko is a bar owner, both, the flower shop and bar Polona are attached to their house so her parents have been practically working from home. The family always had many pets, but her all-time favorite is a Jack Russell terrier Roxi, who is also the star of the family. Polona speaks Slovenian, Croatian, English and Italian. Her favorite movie is trilogy The Godfather, she enjoys listening to rock and pop music and adores sushi. Besides playing tennis she also enjoys snowboarding.
